It's a great filter if used with an inside bag. It will catch the fine dust. If you use it alone or with a garbage bag and a bag keeper, it will quickly fill up with stuff and have to be cleaned out. To clean it, you need to blow it with compressed air, making a huge cloud of dust. If you tap it as suggested you still get a huge mess of dust and it doesn't come clean. I tried it all three ways and decided to pay the price for the inside bag which catches most of the stuff being vacuumed.Customer Review: Smells like gasoline

I really love the washable cleanstream hepa filters I purchaed years ago. They clearly catch the dust that even the yellow filter bags cannot. I recommend using the yellow dust bag and a hepa filter for maximum suction performance. But I bought a new one reciently to replace my old worn out filter and the new one smells so bad I can hardly stand to hold the box. The smell is like gasoline, and the oil has stained the paper blue in the box. I hope ShopVac will correct this issue. Until then I would not recommend this item if you want to breath some clean air in your shop.
If you by one you should buy two. That way you can let one dry out after washing it and use the backup. A wet filter will block the air flow and could damage your shop vac motor.
